Thursday's Events

Today was a very busy day. We toured Canterbury Cathedral - absolutely beautiful and so much history. Since I wanted to take some photos in the cathedral, I told my roomies to go ahead and have lunch without me. I had just enough time to have some side orders of salad, chips (french fries) and buttered bread. Yummy! It was so good and very relaxing. I enjoyed having a moment of quiet to myself.

Next, we boarded the bus with our tour guide, Tony, and headed for Dover Castle. Once there, we took a boat ride on the Strait of Dover which gave beautiful views of the Dover Cliffs, lighthouses and the castle from a distance. Shakespeare Cliff marks the point where England most closely approaches continental Europe. On a clear day, the cliffs are easily visible from the French coast but we were not able to see France from our vantage point.

Once at the castle, we walked around and looked at various sites. We were able to take a small tour of the underground tunnels but had to cut the tour short to make it back to London at our scheduled time. It would have been nice to spend more time here because I know there was lots to see. Like any other trip you take, there is just not enough time to do everything there is to do.

Lindsey, me and Shana on the grounds of Dover Castle.

Later in the evening, Shana, Lindsey and I took the tube and walked quite a distance looking for a restaurant named Arkansas but once we finally found the address, it was no longer open. We were a little disappointed that it was closed but glad that we were able to find the address. Since it was after 9:00 p.m. by the time we found a place to eat, Lindsey and Shana ordered an entree at Wagamama and since I don't eat Chinese food, I ordered dessert. Even the dessert tastes different from ours. The chocolate cake I had was covered in chocolate wasabi sauce!

I'm still having trouble understanding the tubes but am getting better. I figure about the time I finally understand it we'll be heading for home. My tube pass got demagnetized so I seem to always be dragging behind (having to seek assistance at tube stations)! Speaking of behind, I fell today landing on my behind and elbow - nothing serious but it could have been since there was a car coming! They drive so fast here - it's crazy!!!! I figure I will be sore from my fall as I can feel pain when I touch the areas of impact. I seem to be really clumsy right now - not sure if it's tiredness or just trying to walk while taking everything in visually.

Tomorrow is our first free day so we're sleeping in a little late. Me and Shana, an apartment mate, have to pick up laundry first thing in the a.m. We had to leave it with them because we didn't have time to wash and dry everything before leaving for Dover.

We're having loads of fun but I sure am tired. :-)
